Every day should be Clean Up Australia Day but on Sunday 1 March an estimated 500,000 other volunteers around Australia will clean up their local area. In 2015 the event is celebrating 25 years of volunteer action across Australia.
Last year, an estimated 572,406 volunteers clean up 15,708 tonnes at 7,140 sites across Australia.
Since the national event started in 1990 Australians have donated more than 27.2 million hours taking to their streets, bushland, parks and waterways on Clean Up Australia Day, removing an estimated 288,650 tonnes of rubbish from 145,754 sites across the country.
